Just like a plant, love needs to be watered every day, it needs care, it must receive sunlight, and it must be protected from the elements.
This is the message that the symbolic tree ritual evokes.
During the ceremony, the couple will transplant a small plant into a pot that they will then take home.
Or, if the ceremony takes place in their garden, they can plant a small tree in the ground.
Parents can also take part in this ritual, for instance, by giving their children some soil that represents the origins of each of the couple.
